Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PICU

 

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Arrive on time and takes handover of patient bed to bed.
  • Carry out the following assigned jobs given by your superior according to your privilege.
    • Vital Signs
    • Universal Safety Precaution
    • Basic hygienic care like bed bath, mouth care, catheter care etc.
    • Minor Wound Dressing
    • Major Wound Dressing
    • IM Injection
    • IV Cannula Insertion (IV Injection)
    • Start IV Fluids Via Dig Infusa, Syringe Pump, Mannal etc
    • Naso Gastric Tube Insertion
    • Naso Gastric Tube Feeding
    • Folley’s Catheter Insertion
    • Oral Medication
    • Nebulization
    • Monitoring the patient through Cardiac Monitor
    • NIV (CPAP, BIPAP) Connection
    • Assisting for Endo Tracheal Intubation
    •  Assisting for Tracheotomy Procedure
    • Assisting for Central line Insertion
    • Assisting for ICD
    • Assisting for Dialysis Catheter Insertion
    • Assisting for Peritoneal Dialysis
    • Assisting for haeomo Dialysis
    • Assisting EJ & IJ Line Insertion
    • Back Care Attending
    • Position Changing
    • Handling narcotics

 

  • BLS (CPR) Provider/ Trained in PALS

  • Care of unconscious clients.

 

  • Plan and provide the basic care according to the priority needs of the patients.
  • Prepare and take round with Doctor.
  • Carry out instructions Doctor’s appropriately.
  • Administrates medications as per nursing principles.
  • Take responsibility of admission and discharge of the patient.
  • Ensure that the Isolation babies are followed barrier nursing care.
  • Maintain interpersonal relationship with staff, patients, families and community.

 ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • Keep adequate supplies (medicine, injection, linen etc.) and does inventory regularly.
  • Keep custody of drugs and maintains record of its administration.
  • Checks all emergency drugs and equipments daily and assist in maintaining the inventory and check no expiry or near expiry drugs are exchanged in time.
  • Creates safe environment in the ward.
  • Responsible for all the medical equipments are kept clean and hygiene and in perfect working condition for ready to use at all time.
  • Inform any breakage or damage caused for the equipments.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate equipments and supplies to meet the demand.
  • Strictly avoid wastage of your stationery items in the unit.
  • Inform In-Charge Nurse in case of any shortage of supplies.
  • Accountable for maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene of the unit, temperature and oxygen supply.
  • Coordinate with In-Charge Nurse in case of transport need for shifting the patients from other hospital to PICU.
  • Strictly follow the biomedical waste management procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a infection free area by periodic fumigation.

EDUCATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • Participate in CMEs, training programs etc.,
  • Implement the training received at work.
  • Educate visitors with regard to hygiene and hand wash techniques before entering to PICU
  • Responsible to complete the allotted training hours within the said period.
  • Attending NABH classes regularly and updates the knowledge on NABH policies and procedures.
  • Should stay updated with drugs, fluids calculation and administration.

SUPERVISORY ACTIVITIES

  • Supervises and guides co-workers (Ayahs, Ward boys etc.)

RECORDING AND REPORTING ACTIVITIES

  • Report Critical patient’s condition promptly to the concerned person (Doctor, Nursing Superintendent)
  • Responsible to fill the nominal registers and fill all columns properly.
  • Assist in updating the stock register once in three month
  • Informs in advance while taking leave.
  • Record and report nursing care, treatment, medicine correctly and promptly.
  • Report any losses and breakage in the unit without fail.

COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES

  • Provide Psychological support to patient and relatives.
  • Report any incident to the Ward In charge and Nursing Superintendent.
  • Gives orientation to patient and relatives about physical facilities, policy rules and regulations of the hospital.
  • Participates in pre and post conference.
  • Maintains good interpersonal relationship with patient’s relatives, sister, colleagues, co-workers and the department staff.

DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

  • Do self evaluation regularly.
  • Continuously improve personal skills and competence levels
